Gottfried Helnwein Image Response Part 2

Helnwein's image depicts a young girl with a somber face. The girl has long light hair, large blue eyes, and very pale skin. Because the image is large, it's supposed to stand out and draw attention, making it seem like the message behind the work is important. I believe the image is spliced together because some lines are visible. The image is located in an urban area and is targeting an audience of people who pass the area. The mood seems very monotone; the girl has no expression to indicate her emotions.

1st Semester Reflection

Quality of Work Overall, the quality of my work is satisfactory. My actual images follow the assignment requirements and are of good quality. I paid attention to the assignment's objective and met the resolution and format requirements. All of my assignments were turned in on time. I could work on going beyond my first ideas and being more creative. Effort This semester, I actively took photo for the class. I travelled a lot to photograph my desired location or subject, so I did not use the most convenient options. Some of my photography took a lot of planning, such as the blue project, because I had to get three people together and drive an hour to the location. I sometimes shot over the requirement, depending on the assignment. I didn't avoid difficult subjects and I did not give up on hard to get shots. The Importance of Art Art comes in many forms, from drawing to photography to graphic design. Art is an integral part of culture and has been since the beginning of mankind. The statement, "Tax dollars should not be wasted on art, music, or theater classes in high school. Public high schools should be about training young people to enter the workforce. Period", is a completely ignorant statement. Teenagers need ways to express themselves and release creativity. Furthermore, many high school students intend on pursuing a career in the art field. Additionally, with the logic that tax money is wasted on anything other than workforce training, high schools should also discontinue sport programs, since they aren't in the workforce training category. Overall, art is a very important aspect in many peoples' lives, especially in the teenage population, and the right to expression should not be stripped from kids under the assumption that art is useless.
